Thanks In Search of Umami!

It might look a bit like the most beautiful jail in the world but Familistere was actually a house with apartments for up to 2000 employees for the... Godin stove factory. It looks modern and stunning even now so I can't even imagine how luxurious it was in the 19th century when it was built. Godin didn't want to use his workers but wanted them to own a part of the company, have a say in the decisions made and earn a decent salary :) the house had a theater, school, swimming pool and plenty of companions to celebrate it with:) too bad the cooperative dissolved in 1968 and became a public company...we could use a factory like that these days...
Now some of the apartments are rented and some are part of the museum. There are plans to build a hotel in here as well.

Szkoła, basen, teatr, wszystko do dyspozycji. Niestety firma w takiej postaci rozpadła się w 1968 i stała się poprostu firmą państwową... Szkoda, przydałyby się takie firmy w dzisiejszych czasach.
